1. Android :

Android is a very popular mobile os. Android is initially developed by a small start-up company founded by Andy Rubin. Android is named on the name of Andy Rubin. Later android purchased by Google Inc.
Android is a Linux derived operating system. Versions of android earlier than 2.0 were used in mobile phones but now most android phones and tablets use 2.x release.The names of android versions are quite interesting like cupcake (1.5), Eclairs (2.0), Frozen Yogurt or Froyo (2.2), Gingerbread, Honeycomb, Ice cream sandwitch etc. Android supports multitasking and most of the latest multimedia features.

2. Symbian OS :

Symbian OS is being used in maximum number of mobile devices. Symbian OS is developed by Symbian foundation. Currently Symbian based devices are made by Nokia, Samsung, Sony Ericsson etc leading mobile companies. Just like Android OS, Symbian OS is also a smartphone OS. Symbian OS also supports multitasking. Versions of symbian os are S60 v1, S60 v2, S60 v3, S60 v5 etc.

3. iOS :

iOS is a proprietary os from Apple Inc. iOS is used in all Apple devices like iPhone, iPad, iPod Touch and second generation apple TV. iOS is derived from Mac OS X. Currently all iOS devices are developed by Apple Inc. and its other partners.

4. Windows Phone :

This OS is developed by Microsoft based on Windows OS for PC. This OS integrates many of microsoft services like Windows live, XBOX live, Bing etc as well as non-microsoft services like Facebook and Google accounts. It also comes with office suit to manage your documents, presentations or spreadsheets on the move.

5. Blackberry OS :

Blackberry OS is a proprietary OS developed by Research In Motion (RIM) corp. The OS is focused on easy operation and designed for business applications. Now Blackberry OS is featured with latest multimedia features too. Blackberry app-world has over 15000 applications to download. Blackberry OS based devices are developed by Blackberry.

6. Meego :

Meego is the latest Operating system. Meego is a linux based operating system for mobile phones and tablet PCs. Nokia N9 is the first Meego phone announced on 21 June, 2011. Intel also unveiled this OS and LG announced support for this platform.
