A very eminent personality of present India is our president MRS. PRATIBHA DEVISINGH PATIL .Pratibha Tai came to this world on 13 DECEMBER 1934 in Nandgaon situated in Maharashtra. Her father's name was MR. Narayan Paglu Rao and her husband's name is DR.Devisingh Ramsingh Shekhawat.She have a son and a daughter named as Rajendra Singh and Jyoti Rathore. She have 4 grandsons and 4 grand daughters. She married to Devisingh Ramsingh Shekhawat on July 7, 1965. Her profession is politician, social worker and practiced as lawyer in Jalgaon.
She completed her primary education in R.R School at jalgaon.Later she has completed her M.A. from MOOLJI JAITHA (M.J) COLLEGE, JALGAON.Also she has completed law course from Government Law College, Mumbai.

She began her political career in 1962. She handled the portfolios of social welfare n public health and distinguished herself for her loyalty to her party. She was continually re-elected to the assembly, either from Jalgaon or the nearby Edlabad constituencies, until 1985, when she was elected to the Rajya Sabha as a Congress candidate. She was a trust-worthy supporter of Nehru-Gandhi family. She protested the arrest of Indira Gandhi and went to prison for 10 days. In 1980, the Congress (I) swept back into power, and Pratibha's name was considered a front-runner for the Chief Minister's post. However, the post went to Sanjay Gandhi's confidant A. R. Antulay, who was soon forced to resign on corruption charges. She has also served as Director of National Federation of Urban Co-operative Banks & Credit Societies and the Member of Governing Council, National Co-operative, Union of India.

In 1985, she won a seat in Rajya Sabha (upper chamber of the Indian Parliament) ,and she served as deputy chairman of that body from 1986 to 1988. Patil left the upper house in 1990 and was elected to represent Amaravati in the Lok Sabha (lower house) in 1991. She briefly retired from politics after completing her five year term but returned to public service in 2004 when she was appointed governor of the northwestern state of Rajasthan. She was the second politician from Maharashtra for this post, the previous one was Vasantdada Patil . She has also served as Director of National Federation of Urban Co-operative Banks & Credit Societies and the Member of Governing Council, National Co-operative, Union of India.

With Pratibha Patil as Governor, women in three significant positions of power in Rajasthan including chief minister Vasundhara Raje and Assembly Speaker Sumitra Singh. Her long time association with Gandhi family made her favorite of Congress party leader Sonia Gandhi. And Patil's name was brought forward as a candidate for the largely ceremonial role of president in 2007. While previous candidates had been struck down by partners in Congress coalition government , Patil's status as a relative unknown worked to her advantage , and she took office on July 25, 2007. India totally labeled her as an embarrassing choice.
