Subhedar Dharmaji Khambe

Dharmaji khambe was born in the army family. His grandfather Kaluji Khambe was a British regiment officer. So, from childhood Dharmaji want to become Army man. At the age of 20 on August 1926, he was employed in Jaat Regiment. Vishram Sawadkar, colleague of Dr. Babasaheb Ambedkar give him the lessons of Social Service. He play main role in Ambedkai movement.He forms Mahar Regiment on 3 February 1970. He solves problems of retired Army persons. He takes efforts for getting money to widows as per pension plans. On 10 October 1970 Khambe formed a Backward Class Army board in Pune .This board gives training for joining Army.
His son Sudhakar Khambe made a museum dedicated to the Mahar regiment called Subedar Dharmaji Khambe memorial museum. The museum locate at Dr Babasaheb Ambedkar Bhavan, Mangalwar Peth Pune .The museum contain materials, photos of battles, Awards and medals given to soldiers. Museum also contain written letter of Jawaharlal Nehru to a solider of regiment.
