Rankala Lake is very beautiful lake located in the ½ km from Mahalaxmi Temple kolhapur maharashtra western India. Rankala lake is is a picturesque lake. Rankala lake is believed to be directly linked to to a well in Panhala Fort. connection of rankala lake to panhala fort which is Shivaji Maharaj is believed to have crossed. Rankala lake is a famous spot for residents of Kolhapur to spend the weekends. Rankala lake lake was constructed by Chhatrapatis of Kolhapur. Rankala lake is surrounded by chowpati, other gardens. Resently Kolhapur Municipal corporation has built Padpath Udyan front side of lake for walking.
Surrounding of the Rankala lake has been converted into a garden & footh path & lawn where people sell Bhel-Puri, Ragda Patis and various mouth-watering snacks. Rankala is also famous for horse riding and boating. To the 8th century this historical place was just a stone quarry. Rankala lake for the earthquake took place sometime in 9th century some natural structural change took place in the quarry.
Rankala lake on the one side a temple with very big Nandi.As per Hindu mythology Lord Shiva use nandi for travelling. Inside water of Rankala lake Sandhya Math was built on the banks of this lake. North side of Rankala lake there is "Shalani Palace" and towards north-east "Padmaraje Garden".Resently South-East side developed into park, garden , lawn & Path way. one side of Rankala is surrounded with silent zone which is fully covered with trees & between the trees there are path way for walking
