First Doppler Weather Radar Is Installed In Nagpur at Maharashtra
The Maharashtra has a got a gift of Doppler Weather Radar. It is installed in Nagpur near the Babasaheb Ambedkar International Airport on 27 February 2011. There are three Doppler Weather Radar installed in India. This weather radar provided by the Chinese Company. This radar have the capacity to take closed observation of weather up to 500 km. In the 500 km, the weathers observations will take place in most part of Vidharba and some part of Madhya Pradesh, Chattisgarh and Andhra Pradesh.
This Radar give the automatic updates in every 10 minutes about density of clouds and rain. The government has planned to send the weather information to Central Weather Bureau. This information is then transferred to Supercomputer and by the internet or mobile facility farmers were knows weather forecast. This Radar gives the accurate predictions about weather and cyclones. This radar give the images of clouds at specific location. Analysis of weather forecast is done with help of these images and expected rainfall from the Clouds. This also provides information about fog which is very beneficial for the running of Airlines. Conventional radar gives information on reflectivity. But Doppler Weather Radars gives information about velocity and spectral width in addition to reflectivity. This data is used in predicting the storms center and intensity in future path.
Numerical Weather Prediction of severe weather is become very easy with digital data of reflectivity and velocity by Doppler Weather Radar. The second Doppler Weather Radar is manufactured by the Bharat Heavy Electricals Limited. This radar is installed later this month in Colaba observatory in Mumbai. It will cover all the major cities in Maharashtra.
