The outstanding personalities who contributed massively for the on the whole development of Maharashtra scaled new heights of achievement in their respective fields. These personalities who did Maharashtra proud also imprinted the country's name on universal scenario. Persons from different fields including arts, social, entertainment, business, science and technology and politics gave new direction to development in their respective fields not only in Maharashtra but in the entire country. The Maharashrian of the Year awards, instituted by Lokmat, is to recognize these outstanding personalities. This historic award is different given that the jury members were chosen due to their impartial and transparent quality.
Nominations from the Social Service Field:
1.Ulka Mahajan (Code: ULKA):
ULka Mahajan finished post-graduate degree from the Mumbai University. After receiving degree, she decided to use her experience in the field of the social work and knowledge for the betterment of tribal families and choose Raigad district as her area of work 20 years back. She created "Sarvahara Janandolan" to spearhead a movement to find justice for this community. She did outstanding work fort the development of ignored people in society.
The process of mental development is essential rather than treating mental disorders. Anand Nadkarni got MBBS degree from Mumbai University. After MBBS, he started deep study of psycho development science and helped improvement lots of persons psychologically as a psycho-development expert as a substitute of confining himself to being a psychiatrist. He ongoing transforming his knowledge into action at the psychiatry department at KEM Hospital in MUMBAI and cured many people having metal disorder. He also on tracks the Institute for development for psychological Health and is working with the individual objective of ensuring mental for all. In last decades, he organized quite a lot of lectures and workshops on mental health across the world.
The seeds of social services and development are shown deep in the soil of Maharashtra; Moved on seeing the social service behind the Latur-Osmanabad earthquake, this youth attached the Indian Administrative service in 2003 and exhibited his loyalty to service while working on a variety of posts in Haryana. Born and bred up in Maharashtra he emulated the boarding schools in the state for the children of brick kiln workers of Haryana. As a result, children of thousands of Brick kiln workers started receiving education. The United Nations Organization took cognizance of his work and he gets the nomination for the literacy award also. He is also identified as the outstanding administrative officer who helped grow a Maharashtra-Haryana-Bihar bond. He develops software which makes election process more transparent.
4.Dr. Ravindra Kolhe, Smita Kolhe (Code: RAVI):
This couple is acknowledged in the tribal community for the work they did for the tribal children, pregnant women and young mothers in remote and hilly parts in Melghat. The Kolhe have also left their mark in special works they did in the last 26 years for the development of tribal's similar to developing farms, food chains, power generation, and minimum wages. They have also been working for 35 years currently for creating, awareness about women's health and education at Buiragarh in Dharni Taluka. Dr. Ravindra Kolhe is MBBS and MD, Smita Kolhe a graduate in arts and law and also a pediatrician.
5.Shankarrao Papalkar: (Code: SHAN)
'Orphans' is a major social issue. Shankarrao Papalkar is the director of Late Ambadaspant Vaidya MAtim and Bewaras Anathalaya, an orphanage for orphans and psychologically unsound and situated on 25 acres of land near Watzar Fata on Dharni Road, around 60 kilometers from Amravati. This orphanage is dissimilar as it is the one run by orphans only. A handicapped girl found at Nagpur railway Station is the chief superintendent of this orphanage. Likewise, orphan boys are on the executive committee of this orphanage. A blind boy Shankar Papalkar found in a temple at Pandharpur is the secretary of this institution. Shankarrao gave his name to several such orphans and also gave them identity. After these orphan girls manage the age of marriage, Shankarrao gets them married and himself perform the Kanyadaan. Shankarrao Papalkar is 'Father' of 152 such orphans.
