Government of India has regularized the child adoption in India through the Central Adoption Resource Authority or CARA which is governed by the Ministry of Women and Child Development. The motto of Central Adoption Resource Authority or CARA is "Making adoption simpler for you".

What is adoption of Child?


Adoption means the process through which the adopted child is permanently separated from his biological parents and becomes the legitimate child of his adoptive parents with all the rights, privileges and responsibilities that are attached to the relationship.

How to adopt a child in India?


To protect the long term interest of the child and the adoptive parents, Government of India have notified adoption guidelines. These guidelines stipulate that the adoptive parents should follow certain laid down procedures to adopt a child. The guidelines also provide that children should be adopted only through recognized adoption agencies.

Parents desiring to adopt, are, therefore, advised to register only with the following adoption agencies:

*Recognised Indian Placement Agency or RIPA;
*Licernsed Adoption Placement Agency or LAPA; and
*Adoption Coordinating Agency or ACA.
