One of the historical fort in Satara District is Ajinkyatara Fort. This fort build in the memory of the Martyr's of 1857 freedom movement.
In the Chhtrpati Shivaji's period this Sajjangad was spiritual Capital while the Raigad was capital. This fort is only 9 kilometers apart from the Satara city. On this fort Samarth Ramdas who was the guru (teacher) of Shivaji Maharaj took Samadhi.
