Roads in Mumbai to have a better look - washing every month
US Prresident Barack Obama's recent visit to Mumbai has made the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) swung into quick action by cleaning the roads and beautifying streets, has decided to keep the roads neat by washing it once a month. "Roads will now be washed once or twice a month. Cleaning the roads is a regular exercise. Painting the roads, lamp posts and curves would be done as and when required," Additional Municipal Commissioner Ashish Singh told PTI.
Earlier, the civic body had decided to wash roads using non-potable water. "For washing the roads we would make use of borewell water. To cope up with the water crisis, we had dug borewells in the city. Since the crisis is over, water in the borewells is lying untouched so why not use it," Singh said.
Each and every road washing is impossible, only main roads, highways should be washed. First step to be taken is changing the mentality of people that it is duty of government bodies only. People on their part should help and take active part in keeping city and roads clean by not throwing wastes on road. At regular points dustbins must be provided and cleaned regularly by concerned authorities and people throwing waste on road and parking of vehicles anywhere should be strictly fined and punished.
