As a follow up of raid at Regional Transport Office (RTO), Thane, the Anti Corruption Bureau (ACB) officials today raided several RTO Offices across Maharashtra based on the leads on alleged "diversion of commercial vehicles tax" and illegal activities carried out in the RTO Offices. "Raids are being conducted at Regional Transport Offices (RTOs) in Navi Mumbai, Kolhapur, Aurangabad and Pimpri-Chinchwad cities. Based on leads got after the raid at Thane's RTO office, we are conducting these raids today," a senior Anti-Corruption Bureau (ACB) official told PTI.
Diversion of Government funds
It was gathered that during surprise visits, huge volume of incriminating documents were found in the RTO officers which were officially seized, and would be subjected to thorough verification.
Ten days back, on October 22, the ACB officials had seized Rs10 lakh unaccounted cash from Thane RTO office during raids after the information that a racket was being operated in connivance with government officials, and tax pertaining to commercial vehicles was collected by issuing fake challans, the ACB said. Some other illegal activities had also come to their notice, the officials said.
