In a bid to boost its mobile business in Maharashtra by using the landline customer database of BSNL, Shri Sachin Pilot, the Union Minister of state for Communication & IT announced the launch of "Pyari Jodi" scheme at Mumbai today, October 27, 2010.

Under the scheme a free mobile SIM card will be given to all BSNL landline subscribers in Maharashtra and Goa and calls generated from this free SIM to the landline on which it is offered will be free. In other words, the mobile to BSNL landline will be free.

This will be a big benefit for BSNL's 26 lakh odd landline subscribers in Maharashtra. The minister added that in today's competitive telecom environment, it is important for BSNL to constantly introduce innovative services and product in the market.

Shri Pilot said that "performance of the scheme would be monitored and its extension to other circle would be examined." Minister expressed that efforts to expand subscriber base should go hand in hand with constant monitoring of quality of service.
