Shopping in Linking Road
The official name of this road is Vitthalbhai Patel Marg, but people still prefer to call it Linking Road. Linking Road is a cluster of around 200 to 250 shops spread all across the 5-way cross-roads. Linking Road is a perfect fusion of traditional and Western clothes and accessories which makes it more popular among people from all age groups. Products are much cheaper at Linking Road, compared to any other shops in Mumbai. The road is a mix of roadside stalls; shops and small but air conditioned mini shopping malls.
The street side shops sell various trendy outfits, both Indian and Western. Apart from International brands one can also buy fakes which hardly could be recognized apart from the change in spellings here and there. The various clothing available here for sale include Jeans, T-shirts, Kurtas, kurtis, skirts, traditional wears, scarves etc. Other than clothes this place is also famous for the footwear and accessories. The accessories include bangles, bracelets, cosmetic jewelry, earrings, belts and ladies handbags. Shopping is much cheaper than anywhere else as one can get a good pair of jeans in nothing more than Rs.300 to Rs.350/-. The same is with other clothes.
Bargaining of course plays a vital role at Linking Road. All you need pay exactly half of the price quoted to you by the shopkeeper. Try and show least interest in the clothing which may help out in bargaining. Walk out of the shop if necessary as they may immediately come behind you quoting lesser prices than earlier.
One thing that should always be taken care of is to check the clothes or any other items before buying them. At few instances there may be some or the other defects which may go unnoticed.
Linking Road is much more than these shops. Apart from the street side stalls and mini malls, there are many branded outlets and shopping malls on Linking Road like Shopper's Stop, Reebok Showroom, Wills Lifestyle, Phillipe, Spykar Jeans, GKB, Adidas and many more. Other than these malls and outlets, one also finds MacDonald's, KFC, Pizza Hut, Zenzi and many more on this famous road. Few notable banks that are located on this road include Axis Bank, Standard Chartered Bank, Citibank and Abhyudaya Bank.
