Shirdi Sai Baba Temple introduces Solar cooking System and goes green


The famous Shirdi Sai Baba Temple in Maharashtra has introduced solar steam cooking in in the temple's kitchen for distribution of Prasad to thousands of devotees visiting the shrine every day. Thus the dependency on liquefied petroleum gas (LPG) has been reduced considerably.

According to the Chairman of the trust, Jayant Sasane, beside "environmental benefits, the solar kitchen proved cheaper in the long run and offered the advantage of uninterrupted cooking."

"Our effort has always been to be considerate about the environment. We use 30 percent of solar energy used in India. We have built our own infrastructure to harness both solar energy and wind energy," said Sasane.

Prasad is distributed daily to thousands of devotees thronging to have Darshan of Saibaba.

Shirdi is the third shrine where solar system has been introduced for making Prasad in the kitchen, after Tirupati Temple in Andhra Pradesh and Brahma Kumari Spiritual Trust in Mount Abu, Rajasthan.
