PM has launched Unique Identification Scheme on September 29, in Nandurbar, Maharashtra

Shahada, in Nandurbar, a tribal district of Maharashtra will be the first when Prime Minister Manmohan Singh presents the first such number in a function here, on September 29. when Sonia Gandhi, Chairperson of UPA also grace the occasion, to "roll out" 'Aadhar' Scheme, according to reliable sources. Aadhar, under the Unique Identification Authority of India (UIDAI Scheme, set up in June 2009 headed by Nandan Nilekani, Co Founder of Infosys oversees the program. The Scheme envisages providing a 12 digit unique number to every citizen of the country. From 100 million people at end of the current financial year, under the Scheme, the plan is expected to cover 600 million people by 2014. This number will ensure easy access to national services including under the employment guarantee scheme, public distribution scheme, and access to other services including banking for the poor
