Mono Rail to start in September last in Chembur Wadala Sector in Mumbai


With the ever increasing population and no chances of expansion due to highly congested structures on either side, ways have to be found out to ease the high traffic bottlenecks in the City of Mumbai. One thing that is conceived and taking shape is Mono Rail. Yes, when in January last, Chief Minister inaugurated a test run at Wadala, the Monorail project shot into limelight.

According to a top official of theMumbai Metropolitan Region Development Authority(MMRDA) the prestigious http://www.mmrdamumbai.org/planning_tasks.htm is on schedule and services are to start in 2 weeks time. In the initial first phase six trains would be deployed on the nine km long Chembur Wadala route on the eastern suburb. This service will radically change the Mumbai traffic in as much as there will be trains every four minutes, with a speed of 30 kms per hour. The cost is expected to be between Rs 8 – 20. Work on the other sectors of the project are reported to be on schedule.

Sensing the success of the Monorail and taking a cue from Mumbai, Pune Municipal Corporation also announced a 52 km mono rail to ease the ever increasing traffic and clear the bottleneck of Pune City.
