The effect of Methi for curing diabetics was in fact known to me from a personal interview of Late EK Nayanar, Chief minister of Kerala about a few years back. He was diabetic and every day in the morning he used to take a few spoons of methi and its juice keeping in water for about 12 hours. Though the solution of Methi is bitter, kept in water and become soft is found just good to eat. e. Methi contains the fibre component. In people with type 2 diabetes it lowers the blood sugar level and improves the problems associated with high blood sugar level. This herb delays the glucose absorption by the intestine thereby reducing the after-meals glucose peak level.
No significant side effects information is available so far. ( I too have felt no side effect. It is of cooling nature) According to Ayurveda, herbs are taken in combination with other herbs to neutralize the toxicity of one herb with the opposing effect of the other or to enhance the particular effect of one herb with the help of other.
