Koyna Wildlife Sanctuary


In the Maharashtra there are 24 wildlife sanctuary and Koyna wildlife sanctuary is one of them.

Koyna Wildlife sanctuary is located at the distance of 25 kilometers from Patan. This is comes into Satara. Area of this wildlife sanctuary is 423.588 square kilometers.

Koyna wildlife sanctuary, you can wander only feet because there is no any car or jeep. visit to this sanctuary is in the feburay to May in this season. In the western Maharashtra, Koyna sanctuary is present. Here we can found the Koyna dam also. Sanctuary is protected by the large extented of Shivsagar reservoir and steep slopes of western ghats. This sanctuary comes under the evergreen forests and southern moist mixed decidous forest.

There are major trees are found like Anjani, Jambul,Hirda,Awala,Pisa, Kumbha, Bhoma etc. These are found in all over the area. Tree gaints like Horpullia Arborea and Turpunita Malbarica which are endemic to western Ghats are also found in the protected area. There are so many animals found in the sanctuary are Gours, Sloth bear, Sambers , Barking deers, Mouse deers, Gaint squirrels and so many.
