History of Satara
Satara is one of very beautiful and has so much of greenery in it. The oldest place in Satara district is Karad . The very beautiful story in it is that the Pandavas stayed in Wai, after that it is known as 'Viratnagari'.
The very first Mughals took place in 1296. In the year of 1663 Shivaji was attach Parali and Satara fort in their empire. Present king of Satara, Chh. Udayanraje Bhonsale is the 13th descendent of great Shivaji Maharaj.
When Satara was struggle for his independence it was known for Prati Sarkar which means Parallel Government. During event of Bharat chodo (Quit India) movement this Pratapi Sarkar replaced the British.
Satara is situated in the part (western) of Maharashtra. The Satara district is surrounded by so many famous places like Pune, Solapur, Sangli, Ratnagiri etc. Pune district is on the north side (110 km), Solapur district is on the east side , Sangli district is on the south (110 km) and Ratnagiri district is on the west side of Satara.
Satara District has total area of 10,480 km², and a population as per the year 2001 is 2,796,906.

The Shri Bhavani Museum and Library :-
The Shri Bhavani Museum and Library, situated on the Yamai Hill.
It was founded in the year of 1699. The king of Aundh, late Bhawanrao Pantpratinidhi, in year of 1938, built this beautiful museum. This museum and library has more than 5,000 items. This library has more than 25,000 fine arts reference books collection.
Panchgani, is a hill-station in the Satara district.There was a very beautiful logic behind this name Panchgani. It is located amidst five hills, that's why it is name as Panchgani (panch in marathi means five).
It is situated about 265 km from Mumbai city and here you can enjoy the breathtaking valleys, winding rivers, scenic mountains and scattered hamlets.
Mahabaleshwar is a beautiful hill station for tourist its always been a 1st choice for Maharashtrian people. This hill station is situated about 120 km from Pune city and 285 km from Mumbai city.
Mahabaleshwar is also known as "The Queen of Hill Stations", this is one coolest place which gives better option for holiday and honeymoon spot. Mahabaleshwar has more important pilgrimage place for all Hindus because of Mahabaleshwar Temple.
Nandgiri is also known by his another famous name Kalyangad . The famous temple of lord Maruti was reconstructed for all the visitors. The beautiful fort was built by the king Bhoj II in year of 1673 with other forts .
How to reach Nandgiri
Satara is connected to NH4 highway and can be use MSRTC bus servic to reach Satara. Bus service can be provided from Mumbai, Pune, Sangli-Miraj and Kolhapur to Satara.
Satara Railway Station is connected different states and city like Ahmedabad, Bangalore, Mysore, Baroda, Surat, Delhi, Mumbai, Pune, Nagpur, Sangli-Miraj and Goa by express trains.
Their is no direct flight to Satara you have to take flight to Pune which is nearly 110Km from Satara.
