Maharashtra Government Resolution for Maharashtra Students Till Class 8

The Maharashtra State Government has announced that students till Class 8 will be promoted to the next class even if they do not perform well in the exams from the current academic session.

If a student below Class 8 fails in the annual examination, he/she will not be kept back in the same class. Instead, a grade will be given and the student will move to the next class. This Government Resolution has been issued in accordance with the Right to Education Act as per the statement issued by Sanjay Kumar, Principal Secretary of School Education & Sports Department.

Analysis of resolution of Maharashtra State not to fail students till Class 8

Whether this is a wise move is a matter of much debate. True, it will ease the burden of the child and make him/her less stressed out. However, this move will only give children yet another excuse not to take studies seriously. In fact, with no pressure of exams till Class 8, they are likely to feel extra pressure to do well in the higher classes. Studying and Exams are an essential part of the education of the child. Simply allowing a child to get ahead to the next class despite failing will lower the standards of education.
