Kalaram temple at Panchavati near NasikKalaram Mandir, or Kalaram Temple as it is most popularly called as is one of the major attractions of Nasik city. Kalaram Temple is situated at Panchavati area in Nasik City. This temple is the biggest of all the temples in Nashik. This temple was built in the year 1790 by Sardar Odhekar of Peshwa. The temple is dedicated to Lord Rama who is in the form black stone idol. The name of this temple has come because of the black color of the image of Lord Rama here. We can also see the idols of Sita Mata and Lord Lakshmana both of them in black color.

The Kalaram Temple is completely constructed with black stones and there are four entrance doors. Each door is facing East, West, North and South directions. Harijans were not allowed inside the temple in earlier days. But when Dr. B.R.Ambedkar done Satyaqgraha in the year 1930, the Harijans were also allowed into the temple. The wall enclosure of this temple has 96 pillars. The stones used for the construction of the temple were brought from Ramshej. It took nearly 12 years to build the temple with the help of 2000 workers and spending Rs.23 Lakhs in those days. Kalaram temple is 70 feet high and has a gold plated peak. There is Sita gumpha (cave) which is very near to the temple. It is believed that Sita Mata stayed in Sita gumpha during her exile period. There are also temples dedicated to Lord Vithala, Lord Ganesha, and Lord Hanuman in the premises. The festival of Ram Navami and Dassara are celebrated in grand way in this temple. During the festival season, the Kalaram temple will be full of devotees from all parts of India who come here to take a glimpse of the Lord Rama and seek blessings of the Lord.
