How to Travel To Reach Shirdi by Train, Air and Buses

Shirdi, the abode of Sai baba is one of the most important religious places in India. We can see millions of devotees visiting this holy place to take blessings of Sai baba. Shirdi town is very close to Pune and Mumbai cities in Maharashtra state. So it is very easy to reach Shirdi since it is very close to these two metropolitan cities. There are many ways to reach Shirdi from many other cities in India. Let us explore these ways.

Reaching Shirdi by Air

The nearest Air ports to reach Shirdi are Aurangabad, Nasik, Pune, Mumbai and Nagpur. All these cities are well connected to other cities of India. The distances from these air ports to Shirdi are as follow.

Shirdi to Nasik = 75 Kms.
Shirdi to Aurangabad = 100 Kms.
Shirdi to Pune = 175 Kms.
Shirdi to Mumbai = 260 Kms.
Shirdi to Nagpur = 500 Kms.

From the above figures, we can see that the nearest domestic air port very nearest to Shirdi town is at Nasik city. Nasik AirPort is very well connected with many of the cities in India. So any one can reach Nasik by Air and from there they can hire a taxi to reach Shirdi.

There is an Airport at Aurangabad also. The air port at Aurangabad is also a domestic air port and is well connected to many cities in India. So one can reach Aurangabad and then reach Shirdi by hiring a taxi to reach Shirdi.

The Air port of Pune city is located at Lohegaon. Most of the cities in India are connected to Pune Airport. International flights from Singapore and Dubai also reach Pune city. So the tourists from Singapore and Dubai also can catch a flight to Pune and then reach Shirdi by hiring a taxi or by local bus service from Pune city.

Another international Airport near to Shirdi town is the Chatrapati Shivaji Internatinal Airport located at Mumabai city. Mumbai Airport is one of the busiest airports in India having more than 40 landings and take offs per hour. This air port is well connected to all cities in India and also many cities abroad.
There is another domestic air port terminal at Mumbai at Santa cruz. So any one who wants to visit Shirdi can come to Mumbai by flight and then hire a taxi to Shirdi or a number of buses are available from Mumbai to shirdi.

Reaching Shirdi by Train

Until the year 2009, there was no railway station at Shirdi town. One has to either reach Manmad or Kopergaon by train and then take a bus to Shirdi from there two railway stations. Manmad is 58 Kms. from Shirdi and Kopergaon is 16 Kms. from Shirdi town.

Fortunately a Shirdi Railway Station was inaugurated in the year 2009. The name of the railway station is "Sainagar Shirdi" railway station. There are trains from major cities of india to Shirdi railway station.

Bangalore to Shirdi trains

We have three trains from Bangalore to Shirdi. Out of these three trains, only one is a direct train ( Train No. 0685, yeshwantpur-Shirdi Garibrath) and the other two trains will go upto Kopergaon. From kopergaon, we need to take a bus or a taxi to shirdi town. The journey from Bangalore to Shirdi takes approximately 22 to 24 hours.

Chennai to Shirdi trains

From Chennai, there is only one direct train to Shirdi ( Train No.0677, Chennai-Shirdi summer special). This train takes 25 hours to reach Shirdi from Chennai.
We can also catch a train from Chennai to Daund ( a number of trains are there betwen Chennai and Daund) and then reach Shirdi from Daund by local bus or by a taxi.

Trains from Hyderabad to Shirdi

There is no direct train from Hyderabad to Shirdi. But there are a number of trains from Hyderabad to Rotegaon which is 35 Kms. from Shirdi. There is a direct train from Visakhapatnam in Andhra Pradesh to Shirdi. This train (Train No.0867 Visakhapatnam-Shirdi biweekly train) passes through Secunderabad.

New Delhi to Shirdi trains

There are no direct trains from New Delhi to Shirdi. But we can catch any train from New Delhi railway station to Kopergaon and from there we can reach Shirdi by local bus or taxi.

Mumbai to Shirdi trains

Now the Central Railway has started trains from Mumbai to Shirdi after inauguration of railway station at Shirdi. There is now a daily traion from Mumbai CST to Shirdi passing through Pune city. This train takes around 6 hours from Pune to Shirdi town. The train ( Train No.1333) leaves Mumbai at 10.55 PM. This train reaches Pune at 4.10 AM. Then passes through Daund, Ahmednagar, belapur, Puntamba and reaches Shirdi in the morning at 10.30 AM.

Similarly the return train from Shirdi (The Shirdi-Mumbai (No 1334) train) leaves Shirdi at 4.40 PM. It reaches Pune city at 11.05 PM. and reaches Mumbai at 4.25 AM.

Most of the cities in India are connected to either Kopergaon or to Manmad. We can reach Shirdi from Kopergaon or Manmad using local State transport bus or by hiring a taxi.

Reaching Shirdi by Bus

There are a number of buses from almost all the major cities of Maharashtra.

A number of buses run between Mumbai and Shirdi. At least one bus for every 2 hours is available from Mumbai city to Shirdi town. The Mumbai transport corporation runs air conditioned (A/C) as well as Non Air conditioned ( Non A/C) buses between Mumbai and Shirdi. We can see a number of private buses ( Volvo buses) plying between Mumbai city and Shirdi. We can also travel from Dadar, Thane, Kalyan etc. to Shirdi. Buses are available from these places too.

There are also a number of State transport buses plying from other cities in Maharashtra like Pune, Manmad, Aurangabad, Nagpur, Sholapur, Kolhapur, Ahmednagar to Shirdi town. From Manmad, Pune and Ahmednagar we can see a number of buses to Shirdi. The bus frequency from these three places is very good. There are also private Volvo buses running from Pune city to Shirdi.

Buses are also available from other states like Andhra Pradesh, Madhya pradesh, Gujarat etc. Number of buses are available from Hyderabad city to Shirdi.
