Central Institute of Fisheries Education Mumbai
About the Institute The Central Institute of Fisheries Education (CIFE),Mumbai is a deemed university under the Indian Council of Agricultural Research, New Delhi .The CIFE has been rendering yeoman service in fisheries education and training since its inception in 1961. The Institute’s headquarters is located at Mumbai and has four regional centres located in different parts of the country. The Institute imparts post graduate education in all major disciplines of fisheries and offers training and consultancies in fisheries and related disciplines.
Eligibility for training: Aspiring entrepreneurs, professionals, officials, students, researchers and others engaged in fisheries sector, preferably graduates with field experience, can apply.
Application: Application on plain paper in the given format is to be sent at least one month before the start of the programme directly to the concerned Course Directors and for each programme separate applications should be sent. Those candidates who are interested to undergo training at Regional Centres may forward their application directly to the Scientist In Charge of the concerned Centre. In service candidates need to apply through proper channel.
Intake of candidates : Maximum -20
Medium of instruction : English and Hindi
Fees: Course fee payment should be made in the form of Demand Draft (DD) drawn in favour of “ICAR Unit ,CIFE, Mumbai” payable at State Bank of India, Mumbai. The demand draft should be submitted along with the application form.
Boarding and Lodging : Accommodation will be provided to outside participants during the period of training. Food will be available in the students managed mess. The boarding and lodging charges will be about Rs.125 (Rupees one hundred and twenty five only) per person per day which are to be borne by the participants. No accompanies are allowed.
Travel cost: Travel cost should be borne by the participants.
Foreign participants: Candidates for the training must be sponsored by the home countries and by the sponsoring organization. Application form with detailed bio data, passport number, travel plan etc to be sent to DDG (Fisheries) ICAR, Krishi Anusandhan Bhavan II, Pusa Road, New Delhi -110 012 with a copy to CIFE, Versova, Mumbai - 61 for information. Training fee will be $ 100 per candidate. On campus stay and food will be about INR 200 (Rupees two hundred only) per person per day. These certificate courses have been designed to impart more intensive knowledge based skill training on different aspects of fisheries and aquaculture to produce updated fisheries professionals as well as self-propelled and confident entrepreneurs. The method of training would be an interactive two-way facilitation process to build upon the existing information, knowledge, rich experience and expertise of participants on the existing practices, add elements of the recent developments, synthesize, package and deliver the relevant know-how needed. Training courses would involve many behavioral skills to facilitate this flow of two way learning process from the accumulated field experiences and the emerging areas of knowledge. A few aspiring GOs, NGOs, corporate and community organizations are equipping themselves with such tools. All such lessons experienced by them need to be collected and disseminated. CIFE, Kakinada Centre Certificate course on Farm Management 1 Sep - 30 Nov 2009 Brackishwater Aquaculture and CIFE established a full fledged centre at Lahli – Baniyani near Rohtak, Haryana in March, 1996 to take up research programmes on inland saline aquaculture. CIFE Rohtak centre, Lahli is located about 15 Kms from Rohtak bus stand. Objectives Demonstrating various technologies of fin fish and shell fish farming and seed production of Giant prawn through the utilization of the waste land and inland saline water. Activities ?Hatchery seed production of giant fresh water prawn (Macrobrachium rosenbergii) by using inland saline water. ?Hatchery seed production of Indian Magur (Clarius batrachus) ?Culture of IMC, Exotic carp, prawn by using low saline water. ?Culture of Milk fish, Mullet, Bhetki, Tiger Shrimp by using high saline water. ?Conducting need-based research programmes. ?Providing consultancy services. Infrastructure Facilities ?The total area of the centre with fish farm is 36 acres with semi-commercial prawn hatchery, multiple hatchery block and wet laboratory. The centre has five type I and four type II quarters and a guest house, office block, laboratories, teaching block and hostel etc. ?The fish farm was taken over by CIFE Rohtak Centre in 1996 from the State Fisheries Department, Govt. of Haryana on lease basis for 25 years for conducting research. ?The centre has 4.5 ha farm at Lahli and 10 ha farm at Baniyani, the former representing low saline zone and latter high saline zone. The fish farm is equipped with re-circulatory flow through pond system, filtration units and salt evaporation basins.
