Protected areas of Maharashtra - As we know, maharashtra state have a great history of great empire of shivaji raje and peshve or Peshwa who were the Brahmin Prime Ministers to the Maratha Chattrapatis (Kings)and those who began commanding Maratha armies and then later they became the hereditary rulers of the Maratha empire of central India in the period of 1749 to 1818. Following are the Protected areas of Maharashtra which includes Several wildlife sanctuaries, national parks and Project Tiger.
As per the record of May 2004, India there are total 92 national parks, from which 5 (Five) are located in Maharashtra state. We can say, a large percentage of Maharashtra's forests and wildlife lie in the vidarbha region of maharashtra.
- Chandoli National Park -: This park is located in Sangli district which has a vast varieties of flora and fauna.
- Gugamal National Park -: This park is 80 km away from Amravati district, which is also known as Melghat Tiger.
- Navegaon National Park -: A park which is located in Gondia which is in the eastern region of Vidarbha region and the home of many species of birds, deer, bears and leopards.
- Pench National Park -: This is national park which is located in Nagpur district, and it extends into Madhya Pradesh as well. Pench National Park has now been upgraded into a Tiger project.
- Sanjay Gandhi National Park -: This is national park of maharashtra state, located in Mumbai and also known as Borivali National Park, a park which is the largest national park in the world.
- Sagareshwar Wildlife Sanctuary -: A park which is reserved for Wildlife Sanctuary which is located at 30 km from Sangli city. The major attraction places to visit view this park is Ancient temples of Lord Shiva and Jain Temple of Parshwanath which is located in Sagareshwar.
- Tadoba Andhari Tiger Project -: A very famous park of Maharashtra state which is reserved specially for Tiger, reserve near Chandrapur in Vidarbha.
- Apart from the above, Maharashtra state have 35 wildlife sanctuaries spread all over Maharashtra state are listed here. The famous Nagzira which is located in Bhandara district of Maharashtra state. In Maharashtra, there are more important Protected areas such as the Koyna Wildlife Sanctuary and Phansad Wildlife Sanctuary.
Including above, there is a very popular Matheran, a Hill station near Mumbai, which has been declared as an eco-sensitive zone i.e. very much Protected area by the Government of India.
